Sustainable Development is Being Pushed
Just as President Xi once said, “Socialist China now stands tall and firm in the East”. China is playing a more and more significant role on the stage of the globalizing world, with its contributions to global problems making a substantial difference, among which the achievements of sustainable development are particularly outstanding. Since 1978, when the idea of reform and opening was put forward, China has made huge progress in its economy. In 1978 the GDP of China was about 367 billion while nowadays its GDP has gone up to over 99 trillion, ready to welcome the arrival of the new era. Besides, in 2010 China became the second-largest economy, second only to the US, showing the vitality of the reform and opening. Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets. With the guidance of President Xi, local governments have been mounting a series of appeals for joint efforts to protect the environment, ranging from planting trees to waste sorting. Now the forest coverage is about 22 percent and the number of trees has increased by 26 percent in the past 18 years, pushing the process to build an environment-friendly society.Additionally, the accomplishments of social development must be emphasized here. As the interests of people are forever placed first, China keeps up with the pace of the era and improves the social security system and the living standards. Thanks to China, nearly 700 million people have been lifted out of poverty, bringing a moderately prosperous society into reality. As a senior high school student, I will share these achievements with foreign students and write articles on the Internet to make Chinese voices heard further. I’m firmly convinced that what China has achieved will be what the world has believed.
